Joseph Gibbons is a Behavioral Health Technician and CADC Intern at BlueCrest Recovery Center. Currently pursuing his CADC and accumulating supervised clinical hours, Joseph is passionate about expanding his education in addiction counseling, psychology, mental health, spirituality, group facilitation, and family systems.
Joseph’s own recovery has played an important role in shaping his desire to work in the addiction field. For the past eight years, he has helped others through Alcoholics Anonymous as a sponsor and 12-Step guide. Through this experience, he developed a passion for teaching and helping others recover from what can seem like a hopeless state of mind and body. Outside of BlueCrest, Joseph continues his service in the recovery community by leading a Big Book study meeting.
At BlueCrest, Joseph facilitates 12-Step education groups and co-facilitates groups with clinicians as part of his CADC internship. He approaches clients with firm honesty, compassion, understanding, and education. Joseph believes that people entering treatment need to feel safe and supported without being judged or defined by their mistakes. Clients have told him that his direct approach and ability to explain difficult concepts in simple, practical terms have helped them better understand recovery.
Joseph respects that there are different pathways to achieving and maintaining sobriety. At the center of his approach is willingness—the belief that regardless of how many times someone has struggled or fallen, meaningful change remains possible when that person becomes willing to get back up and try again.
Joseph considers his own recovery one of the most important aspects of his life and feels called to dedicate his professional future to helping others achieve lasting sobriety. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, spending time with his daughters, and creating artwork through sketching and painting.
