Does Aetna Cover Addiction Treatment?

Millions of Americans have Aetna insurance, and millions have substance use disorders. Thankfully, Aetna rehab insurance coverage means that people with both can get effective treatment covered by their insurance plans.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), signed into law in 2010, mandated that all major insurance carriers provide coverage for substance use and mental health treatment. This means that people with Aetna rehab insurance are guaranteed to have some coverage for addiction treatment services, regardless of which plan they have.

However, not all Aetna rehab insurance coverage is the same. Some plans will offer full coverage for substance use treatment with specific providers, while others will only cover some of the costs.

How to Check Your Aetna Rehab Insurance Coverage

There are two main methods of checking whether paying for rehab with Aetna is an option. The first is calling your insurance company directly, and the second is contacting a substance use treatment provider that works with Aetna to provide treatment services.

Call Your Insurance Carrier

To verify your coverage through Aetna and understand the full details of your plan, you can call the number on the back of your insurance card. This number connects you with an Aetna representative directly. They can explain your plan’s benefits and how much coverage you can expect to receive.

You can ask the representative questions like:

  • Does my insurance plan cover addiction treatment?
  • What are the limits of my Aetna rehab insurance coverage?
  • How much should I expect to pay out of pocket for treatment?

Speaking directly with Aetna can inform you of the limits of your plan, which can help you make a roadmap for your recovery that ensures you get the greatest benefit.
