What Is Meditative Therapy?

In general, meditative therapy promotes relaxation and expands a person’s consciousness by focusing on a keyword, sound, image, or mantra. This is done in each session while tuning out outside stimuli from a person’s awareness. However, there is more than one type of meditation therapy program for recovery.

Meditation has distinct effects on the brain and is linked to healing in various ways, such as through cognitive-behavioral therapy. Researchers have found that with persistent mindful meditation, the brain shows increased activities associated with happiness and joyful, serene emotions.

Further research indicates increased antibody responses to an influenza vaccine, which suggests that a meditation therapy program for addiction recovery may boost physical health as well as mental health.
